October is looking like quite a month for music in New England. There are some great bands coming around and I definitely suggest that you check them out.
- 10/3 - 10/4
Minus The Bear
Downstairs at the Middle East, Cambridge, MA
Minus The Bear certainly isn’t for everyone but I think they’re great. They’re touring in support of their latest album “Planet of Ice” which was released on Aug 21st. I haven’t had a chance to pick it up yet but I strongly suggest giving a listen to their previous release “Menos el Oso”. “Memphis & 53rd” & “Fulfill the Dream” are two of the highlights. They’ll be supported by Subtle and Ela. - 10/11
Hot Hot Heat
The Paradise Rock Club, Boston, MA
Oh Goddamnit, Hot Hot Heat will be playing the Paradise. HHH is definitely worth giving a listen so check them out. They’ll be playing with Bedouin Soundclash and De Novo Dahl. - 10/30
The Thermals
Downstairs at the Middle East, Cambridge, MA
The Thermals are it. They have been a favorite of mine for a couple of years now and they never disappoint. Their first album, “More Parts Per Million” was outstanding (check out: “No Culture Icons” and “Brace and Break”) while their second album, “Fuckin’ A”, was fuckin’ great (”End to Begin” and “A Stare Like Yours”). I can’t recommend them enough. - 11/3
Superdrag
The Paradise Rock Club, Boston, MA
Ok, so this show isn’t technically in October. Sue me. I needed to add this in simply because, well, it’s Superdrag. What else do you need? Specifically, this show will be the original, pre-Dying Stars Superdrag who I’ve never had a chance to catch live. Dan and I will be at the show and I can’t wait to hear all of the great “Sterero 360 Sound” and “Head Trip” songs that haven’t made their set list for a while. Opening will be Stewart Pack, Mic Harrison & The High Score.
You should definitely try and make it to one or more of these shows. If you know of any other great bands (local or otherwise) that will be playing in the area let us know about it.
